Former Team India cricketer Madan Lal feels that the Ireland series will provide Jasprit Bumrah with an excellent opportunity to assess his fitness level accurately.
Indian cricketer Madan Lal believes that the upcoming Ireland series presents a crucial opportunity for Jasprit Bumrah to assess his fitness level accurately. The three-match T20I series is set to kick off on August 18.
Jasprit Bumrah, the star pacer, has made a much-awaited return to cricket as he was named the skipper of the 15-member squad for the series against Ireland. Having recovered from injury, Bumrah is determined to regain his top form swiftly.
Since his last appearance in September against Australia in the home T20I series, Bumrah has been out of action. In March, he underwent back surgery in New Zealand, which led to him missing both the Indian Premier League and the World Test Championship final. During his post-surgery recovery and training, he remained at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
“It is good that he is going to Ireland. He will get to play matches and get to know where he stands with regard to his fitness. He will have to play matches and maintain continuity. It is really important that he plays the World Cup and should not take any unnecessary chances. Though Bumrah is an asset for us, one bowler cannot change everything. Our bowling will have to perform as a unit. If they do not do well for us, it would become difficult for us,” Madan Lal was quoted as saying by the News Mill.
Moreover, Madan Lal emphasized the significance of the Indian middle order, expressing his belief that their performance will be pivotal in India’s quest to secure victory in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be hosted on home soil.
“They (middle order) batters are playing regularly, getting exposure. If you do not perform, what is all this hard work worth? It is up to players to perform, it will make the middle order strong and confident. If we have a good middle order, only then India will have a chance to win the WC,” he concluded.
